This is a touchy subject when it comes to alcoholism but, one that needs to be addressed. Some may not even consider themselves as having a problem with their alcohol consumption but the facts are the facts.
There are many signs that you have a drinking problem as you will see in this article.
I’ve written many posts about my alcoholism but now it is your turn… Here you will, if you drink almost everyday, find some of these questions pertain to you. Even if you don’t think you have a problem.
Here is a personal video from me to you about this topic:
Signs that you have a drinking problem
- Do you drink heavily when you are disappointed, under pressure or have had a quarrel
with someone? - Have any of your blood relatives ever had a problem with alcohol?
- Can you handle more alcohol now than when you first started to drink?
- Do you ever feel depressed or anxious before, during or after periods of heavy drinking?
- Have you ever been unable to remember part of the previous evening, even though
your friends say you didn’t pass out? - Have you ever gone to anyone for help about your drinking?
- When drinking with other people, do you try to have a few extra drinks when others
won’t know about it? - After periods of drinking do you sometimes see or hear things that aren’t there?
- Do you sometimes feel uncomfortable if alcohol is not available?
- Do you sometimes stay drunk for several days at a time?
- Are you more in a hurry to get your first drink of the day than you used to be?
- Have you recently noticed that you can’t drink as much as you used to?
- Do you sometimes feel a little guilty about your drinking?
- Do you sometimes have the “shakes” in the morning and find that it helps to have a
“little” drink, tranquilizer or medication of some kind? - Has a family member or close friend express concern or complained about your drinking?

- Have you ever had a DWI (driving while intoxicated) or DUI (driving under the influence) violation, or any other legal problem related to your drinking?
- Have you tried switching brands or drinks, or following different plans to control your
drinking? - Have you sometimes failed to keep promises you made to yourself about controlling or
cutting down on your drinking?
These are quite a few questions to ask yourself to be able to tell if you have a drinking problem.
I personally have asked myself most of these questions towards the end of my alcoholic abuse, how about you?
Have you ever asked yourself these questions at some time in your life or maybe someone close to you have asked you? Or downright got in your face about it?
Signs, signs, everywhere a sign!
Now, most of the signs I mentioned above may not always be so obvious. Some signs that you have a drinking problem will be super obvious like:

Well, you get the point.

There are a ton of bad things that can happen from your drinking problem and I for one hope that you get a handle on your addiction. It could be as simple as a better life or death! It’s the journey in between that you need to focus on.
Taking the first step is the biggest and most important step of the rest of your sober life!
